Craps Betting
This is the most intimidating part of the game. However, knowing when to bet and what kind of bet to make is actually quite simple. Most players new to the game won’t make many of these bets to begin with. Craps bets are not all that complicated, once you’ve read the following you feel much less confused about the different betting option.
The Pass Line
This popular craps bet is paid 1:1 or is an even money bet. If a shooter rolls a 7 or 11 on the first roll, you win. If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled you lose. If any other number is rolled, it becomes the point. If a shooter rolls the point again you win. If the player rolls a seven you lose.
The Don’t Pass Line
This is the opposite of the Pass Line. However, if a shooter rolls a 12, then it’s a tie and nobody wins.
The Come Bet
This is the same as betting on the Pass Line, except you’ve placed your bet after the shooter as rolled a point.
The Don’t Come Bet
This is the opposite of the Come Bet. If the shooter’s first roll is a 2 or 3 you win and if it is a 12, it’s a tie.
Odds
This craps bet has the lowest house advantage. Once the shooter has rolled a point or “come out point”, you may take the odds. You’ll win if the point or come point is rolled before a seven. The Payoff for odds are 2:1 for 10’s or 4’s, 3:2 for 5’s or 9’s, 6:5 for 8’s or 6’s. If you are betting Don’t Pass or Don’t Come bet the odds as described. Odds bets are placed behind your bet on the pass line. On the Don’t Pass bet, your odds bet is placed beside your bet and off set the chips towards the dealer.
Place Bets
When a shooter rolls a point, you may place bet on 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. If your number is rolled before a seven you win. The payout is 9:5 on 4’s or 10’s, 7:5 on 5’s or 9’s and 7:6 on 8’s or 6’s.
The Field
When you bet the field you are betting that a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 will be rolled before a 5, 6, 7 or 8. If a 2 or 12 are rolled you are paid double. This is called a one roll bet. You’ll lose if the shooter rolls a number not in the field - 5, 6, 7 or 8.
Big 6 or 8
You can bet on one or both and win even money if this number is rolled before a seven.
Proposition Bets
These bets are all the bets in the area in front of the stick man. They will usually ask that these bets be made before each roll of the dice. 2 and 12 pay 30:1 and 3 and 11 pay 15:1. These bets are all one roll bets meaning that you’ll lose if the dice don’t show a 2, 3, 11 or 12. A Horn Bet is a bet on all four number and a Horn High Bet as an extra wager on one of the four numbers. Hard Way bets, Any Craps bets and bets on 11 are all proposition bets.
Hard Way Bets
If your number comes up exactly as shown on the table then you win. If it comes any other way you lose. You’ll also lose if a shooter rolls a 7. If you bet on a hard 4, the dice must show two 2’s. If they show a one and a three, you lose.
Any Craps Bet
This wager can be made on any roll. If the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12 then you win. This wager pays out 7:1. If any other number is rolled, you lose.
